Why Before You Step Outside?

Before You Step Outside PLLC is named after a chapbook titled "Before You Step Outside [You Love Me]" by Travis Alabanza, a Black Nonbinary Gender Non-Conforming Transfeminine British Performance Artist, Writer, and Theater Maker. In this work they wrote . . .

"It is not me who is the problem, more the world that cannot hold me."

This quote informs much of how I understand the world and how I approach therapy -- in a way that honors your majesty, strengths, and unique lived experiences while noticing the ways the world does not.

Land Acknowledgement and Indigenous Sovereignty

I live and work on the unceded sacred home, hunting, and trade lands of many diverse peoples including the Chemakum (or Tsemakum on the 1876 U.S. Dept. of Interior map below) who are working to restore and revitalize their history and culture, land and language.

I work in partnership with other Indigenous inhabitants of the region, especially through the Longhouse for the People project, working to bring traditional longhouses, foods, culture, and knowledge to the Eastern Olympic Peninsula.
